Device Trial #1 Poplar Bridge Road at Kell Avenue - May/JulyPhotograph of a traffic circle trial in an intersection.

Background:

Staff has heard concerns about this intersection for a number of years. Speeding, near misses, and accidents are the main topics of these concerns. This intersection is scheduled for Pavement Management Plan (PMP) work in the near future. This is a good opportunity to look at solutions that can be included with the PMP project.

This traffic circle trial will be installed in May and be in place for approximately 6-8 weeks. Following the trial, the temporary traffic trial will be removed.

Staff has and will continue to gather traffic data during the trial.

A neighborhood survey has been mailed out to the neighborhood gathering opinions regarding this traffic circle.

Opinion Survey results in the sidebar to the right under "Poplar Bridge Neighborhood Survey Results"

Due to the traffic impacts from the private utility work in the area, the device trial is remaining in place longer than originally scheduled.

Next Steps:

Engineering staff is moving forward with the 2024 implementation of a permanent traffic circle at Poplar Bridge Road and Kell Avenue. Staff is currently working on the design of the traffic circle that will be included with the 2024 PMP program.
