Bloomington 2050 is a once-in-a-decade effort to manage how the city grows, connects, and thrives.

Bloomington 2050, sets the City’s 20-year vision through a set of goals, strategies, and actions that guide future growth and change in the City. It also outlines the vision and priorities for future land use management, transportation investments, housing policy, community infrastructure and park investments, as well as climate adaptation and mitigation strategies. 

Community Engagement for Bloomington 2050

Phase 1 Engagement launched the Bloomington 2050 effort and raised awareness about the Plan amongst community stakeholders. A summary of themes is provided in the Phase 1 Engagement Report and the full source data is provided in the Phase 1 Engagement Data Summary.

Some highlights of Phase 1

• 172 responses from our Phase 1 Engagement Survey!
• Pop-ups at the Early Childhood Expo, Bloomington Home Fair, Petals of Peace, Bloomington Farmers Market, Bloomington Pride, Bloomington Juneteenth Celebration, Learning LinkUp, and Fiestas Patrias - 608 unique interactions with community members!
• Community Launch Event at Bryant Park and a Virtual Launch Event - 38 unique interactions!
• Collected 489 six-word story postcards to capture phrases, ideas, and stories about Bloomington!

Upcoming Engagement for Bloomington 2050

Feedback and community input collected from Phase 1 were used to create draft strategic priorities and guiding principles. These priorities and principles will provide the overall framework for the Bloomington 2050 Plan. These draft priorities and principles will be available for further community input and refinement at the start of 2027 as part of Phase 2 Engagement. Throughout Summer and Fall 2027, we will evolve to our Phase 3 Engagement and gather input on the goals and strategies the City should pursue over the next 20 years.

Staff launched this process in May 2026 with our kickoff event at Bryant Park and will continue community engagement throughout 2026 and 2027. These will include online surveys, community dialogues, and pop-ups at City events.
