When people live in or visit Bloomington, they are often within a short distance to neighborhood-oriented commercial areas that offer valued and unique shopping and dining options. No matter where your home or hotel is, one of these neighborhood commercial areas is not far away. In alignment with Bloomington's Forward 2040 Comprehensive Plan (pg. 4, purple highlighter), residents asked the City to improve and invest in eight priority neighborhood commercial areas, known as "nodes", for the BTT 5-Year Strategic Plan. This Initiative creates a Vision and Toolkit for Bloomington's eight priority commercial nodes, and will offer property owners, business owners, developers, and City staff tools to stimulate investment in and improvement of these neighborhood commercial centers.
Decision statement: To actively partner with property owners and business owners to develop a comprehensive toolkit for commercial nodes that supports revitalization by providing a range of interventions and recommendations. This toolkit will guide the allocation of resources, including financial support and technical expertise, to maximize the impact of revitalization in Bloomington.
Promise to the Public: We will partner with stakeholders and industry professionals to develop a vision and range of interventions that address the unique needs of commercial node revitalization in Bloomington. We will keep stakeholders informed, listen to, acknowledge and research concerns, and provide follow up on how feedback was evaluated and prioritized.
