Public Engagement/Listening Sessions - ROUND #2

Thank you for everyone who attended the first round of listening sessions! MnDOT is hosting a second round of virtual meetings between April 27 to 29. The second round will provide updates on how we used public input in the design process for improvements at France Avenue, the I-35W and I-494 interchange, frontage roads, and changes to access at Nicollet Avenue, Portland Avenue, and 12th Avenue.

I-494 Public Engagement/Listening Sessions - ROUND #1

MnDOT will be hosting virtual listening sessions to engage with the public as the project layouts are being developed. The sessions will address information about:

  • The long-term vision for improvements on I-494;
  • The first construction project; and
  • The improvements to specific locations on and adjacent to the corridor.

In addition to the freeway project elements, the listening sessions will cover changes to the local roadway system. MnDOT and local agency partners will be seeking comments from the public on changes in access, bike and pedestrian facilities, and other local issues.

  • Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at 5:00pm - Improvements at the I-35W and I-494 interchange
  • Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at 5:00pm - Changes to access at Nicollet Avenue, Portland Avenue, and 12th Avenue

If you would like to comment on the concepts being presented, there is a form to easily submit comments to the project team related to each of the three areas of the project. https://www.494openhouse.com/comments. Comments and questions are also welcome and encouraged during each of the public listening sessions.


I-494 Vision Update

I-494 Vision Planning: MnDOT is wrapping up the I-494 Vision planning part of the study and has an approved implementation plan. This plan prioritizes the construction projects to implement the I-494 Vision.

Project 1 Layout Development: The exciting news is that first construction project will begin as soon as 2023. Project development is now underway to prepare layouts for the first construction project. The first project will include:

  • The 35W/494 Interchange flyover ramp for NB to WB traffic (element 3);
  • MnPASS and auxiliary lanes between 35W and Hwy 100 (elements 3 and 4); and
  • Changes to 494 access at Nicollet Avenue, Portland Avenue, and 12th Avenue (element 7)
