The purpose of the remote airport parking study is to better understand the existing conditions and future interest for airport parking in the community. This includes both airport parking as a primary use on a site as well as airport parking at hotels in the City. The study will highlight where airport parking is currently occurring and desired in the City, how other communities regulate airport parking and whether additional performance standards should be incorporated into the Zoning Code.

The City Council established a moratorium on land use actions within the City of Bloomington related to airport parking facilities pending completion of a planning study assessing the need for an amendment to the City Code. That moratorium is in effect until October 10, 2025.

Study session discussions are scheduled with the Planning Commission on May 22, 2025 and the City Council on June 16, 2025. Based on feedback from the Planning Commission and City Council, a formal ordinance will be presented at public hearings later this summer. The anticipated public hearings will be July 24, 2025 with the Planning Commission and August 25, 2025 with the City Council.

Promise to the public: The City will inform the public on the project progress, alternatives, and solutions of the remote airport parking study. You can direct any questions about the study to the staff listed on this webpage.
