The City is replacing the roof at the 82nd Street round water reservoir. The reservoir was built in 1964 and had its roof rehabilitated in 1998. A facility inspection in 2020 identified tears in the roof’s felt asphalt layer as well as several areas of ponding water, indicating improper drainage. The existing roof membrane, flashings, and insulation will be removed and replaced with a new EPDM roof (extremely durable synthetic rubber roofing membrane), and new safety railings and a replacement roof hatch will be installed.
This project is a part of Utilities’ effort to proactively maintain Bloomington’s water storage facilities, and will address issues concerning roof condition, safe access, and energy code compliance. The project is scheduled to begin in fall of 2023 and is expected to complete in spring of 2024.

Hello Katrina, the scheduled date of substantial completion for this project is May 31. However, we are hopeful that work will be complete earlier in May if weather stays on our side.
I will communicate your concern to our on-site inspector to ensure that dust is being adequately controlled. Thank you for reaching out.
