ISmith Park Challenge Coursen 2022, the Bloomington City Council directed funding for a new playground structure at Smith Park. Community input guided the direction on the playground structures.
Now it's time to celebrate the grand opening of Bloomington's first-ever challenge course on Saturday, April 27!
Schedule of Events
10:00 am - Guest arrival, socializing, music, food
10:30 am - Mayor's address and ribbon cutting
10:45 am - 1 pm - Music, dancing, challenge course time trials, food and fun for all ages.

Construction is underway and the challenge course is taking shape! The majority of the concrete and electrical work on the play components are complete, the install team is finalizing the turf work and finishing details to make the playground play ready. Staff will continue to finalize park details, residents can look forward to a Spring 2024 Grand Opening celebration.

March 12, 2023: Based on community feedback the City has selected the Challenge Course option. Construction is planned for fall 2023. Thank you for contributing to this decision. This playground will be a first of it’s kind in Bloomington. The project and process honors the Cities commitment established in the Park System Master Plan to community-driven planning and providing new activities and experiences that residents want in their parks!
