Help create a space that truly works for everyone by completing an accessibility-related survey. Deadline: July 20.
More than two years of input from residents helped the City develop the long-term Bloomington Forward investment plan to support three major community projects for better health, wellness, athletics and recreation.
The City will invest $101.8 million to build a new community health and wellness center that will support a wide range of recreational and fitness activities and community programs to residents throughout our region. The facility will be funded through a local option sales tax approved by Bloomington voters in 2023. The City also received $1.8 million in state bonding money for predesign work.
The project will create:
A family-oriented facility that meets the broad-based wellness and health goals of clients and users from across the area.
A wide range of recreational opportunities for people of all ages.
A right-sized, multiuse, flexible space to meet the area’s leisure and fitness needs both now and into the future.
A modern, welcoming, more effective environment for individuals seeking health and fitness services.
Increased accessibility to services, particularly for those who have experienced health disparities including refugees, immigrants and individuals from the BIPOC community.
The new center will replace Creekside Community Center and the Public Health building. It will be located on the same site as Creekside Community Center, 9801 Penn Ave. S.

As we approach 100% design development for the Community Health and Wellness Center, your input is more important than ever. While the building’s overall design and floor plans are largely established—and have been developed to meet or exceed Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements—we deeply value your insights and want to ensure that our center is as inclusive, welcoming, and user-friendly as possible for all members of our community.
This survey will concentrate on important accessibility-related details that remain open for community input, including:
Layout and design of furniture
The placement of fixtures and equipment
Wayfinding systems and signage
Lighting, acoustics, and sensory details
User experience throughout the facility
Your perspective is critical in helping us go beyond code compliance to create a space that truly works for everyone.
