Driving slower is good for you and your neighbors. This change makes neighborhood roads safer in many ways, including:
- Reduced likelihood of crashes and injuries resulting from crashes.
- Increased safety for pedestrians and cyclists
Background: On September 18th, 2023, the Bloomington City Council approved changing the speed limit for local/neighborhood streets to 25 MPH. Staff are proposing speed limit changes for larger city streets next.
The proposed changes have been informed by the context of existing roadways, feedback already received from the Neighborhood Transportation Management Plan (NTMP) engagement, past and recent studies regarding effective speed limits, and engineering judgement.
The Proposed Speed Limits map provides a look at which streets are included in this project. (click image to enlarge).
