Well 7 Design and Construction
Well 7 is a future water supply well that is being designed and constructed to replace an existing well which has reached the end of its useful life. In February 2023, Barr Engineering Company completed a feasibility study which evaluated seven potential sites and determined that Tarnhill Park met all site screening requirements. Well 7 will provide raw water capacity to the City’s Water Treatment Plant to help serve present and future water needs of the community.
This site will provide informational updates of the project over the lifecycle of the project.

Will water pressure improve for many on the west side feed from the water tower on the east side?
MNSwede asked 20 days agoThe project should have no impact on distribution system pressure. Water supply wells provide raw water to the treatment plant, where it is first treated and then distributed. Distribution system pressure comes from pumps and elevated storage (water towers); this pressure is provided after the treatment process.

CR asked about 1 year agoNo impacts to city water access or residential access are anticipated. There will be small road disturbances, but none of these should impede road use or access to property. The method of installation (horizontal directional drilling) was chosen to minimize disruptions that would normally occur in a traditional open cut installation.

Where is the current well located?
LauraC asked over 1 year agoThank you for your question. The existing well is sited near the water treatment plant. Both the rehabilitation of this well and the use of the existing site have been deemed infeasible.

dadamseast asked over 1 year agoThank you for your question. The FAQ has been updated with a location description.
New raw watermain will be installed via a trenchless method as opposed to an open cut trench. This will minimize impacts to the road and eliminate the need to resurface the entire road. The schedule is highly sensitive to an unpredictable permitting process, but raw watermain construction is currently anticipated between September 2024 and June 2025.
