The storm sewer that serves as the outlet of Pauly's Pond is aging and in need of replacement. Temporary emptying of Pauly's Pond is proposed, to provide dry working conditions required to replace the pond outlet. Pauly's Pond is a Public Water regulated by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MN DNR). Per Minnesota State Statute, the MN DNR requires support from at least 75% of riparian [adjacent] landowners prior to authorizing temporary water level drawdown.

City of Bloomington Staff have compiled this page, and the FAQ on the right, to provide information about the project and seek support from adjacent landowners to allow replacement of the aging infrastructure.

Update May 4, 2026

Construction is starting at the Pauly's Pond storm sewer outlet pipe. Workers are beginning to lower water levels using pumps that will run continuously for several days. Enclosures will be used around the pumps to mitigate noise. Work to replace the storm sewer outlet pipe is expected to take 2-3 weeks and is weather dependent. Rain will delay progress on the project. After the initial pumping, additional pumping may be required to maintain lowered water levels. For portions of the work, the right lane of westbound W 84th Street will be closed between Oxborough Ave S and Quinn Road; please consider using alternate routes. Updates will be posed here and at the City of Bloomington's Major Construction Projects Page in the Water Resources Section.

Update May 11, 2026

Construction is on schedule. Traffic impacts on W 84th Street are expected to last an additional 1-2 weeks. Intermittent pumping may continue throughout the week of May 11.
